After 8 months of working on replacing fixed-pipeline OpenGL with something more modern I just removed the last glBegin/glEnd block today and only have one instance of a shader not being bound left to track down out of 2 million lines of spaghetti code.

Utilities in the US should be nationalized. It makes no sense when someone in a country like the USA has to worry about having their water or electricity cut off during record high temperatures.

I feel like this Epstein thing has given the Democrats the ultimate weapon. Only reason the files suddenly wouldn’t exist is because someone is on the list who is in government now. Democrats can put releasing the Epstein files in EVERY bill they want to stop.

Is it just me or is social media not really as social as the name suggests.

About a month ago I got banned on both Paypal and Venmo without any explanation. Today Venmo/Paypal finally gave me an answer: "Thanks for following up. We have systems in place that monitor activity on Venmo, but please note that we don't reveal information about our internal systems - 1 of 4

I think I’m going to impose a trade tariff on my local grocery store. I buy so many groceries from them and yet they buy nothing from me. I also produce nothing, but that is irrelevant if certain politicians are to be believed.

I wish US infrastructure wasn’t so bad I have to choose between paying money to Elon Musk’s company for Starlink or go back to dialup.

“In your dread of dictators you established a state of society in which every ward boss is a dictator, every financier a dictator, every private employer a dictator, all with the livelihood of the workers at their mercy, and no public responsibility. And to symbolize this state of things,

Took a job upgrading some legacy code from Visual Basic to something more modern. Something more modern was still .NET 4.8. I can’t even find documentation on the functionality I have to replace because they don’t exist anymore and I’m having to upgrade OpenGL from 1.x to 4.

Life as a contractor is weird. 2 weeks ago I was an Archivist dedicating all my time and energy into preserving what I thought was a pretty cool collection of maps and historic papers documenting the creation of GPS. Company I worked for lost the contract and when I interviewed to keep the job …

I can’t escape it. I’ve been trying to find work outside of IT and thought I’d finally gotten out. After 4 years of a job I enjoyed, a new company took over the contract and want to put me to work doing dev-ops.

I just realized something upsetting on my way to work today. With Musk buying a position in US government he is in a prime spot to force the closure of NASA and funnel all of its funding to himself and Space-X.

If you listen to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” with autotune applied and about 5% slower than normal it sounds very threatening. Whoever recorded this should not be allowed to make Christmas music.

Work for a company I’ve said for years I wouldn’t and continue to be able to pay my bills, or lose my job in a couple months and have no guarantee of even being able to make half of what I am now. I hate being a government contractor. 1/2

Anyone who needs a laugh should look at the book “English as She is Spoke” by Pedro Coralino. It’s what happens when a Portuguese person who can’t speak English or French but has way too much confidence, teaches English by translating from Portuguese to French and then French to English.

I accidentally looked at the news today and realized it might be a good idea to prepare for the next 4 years. New passport and a bug-out bag for if things get too bad are a must but also finding alternatives for all the things that’ll rise 25% and more in price with the tariffs.

I've been seeing a lot of profiles with many thousands of followers that appear very much to me like bots reposting random things but mostly posting ads for something. Am I just really out of touch with social media, or have the bots taken over BlueSky already?

Worst part of being an adult is realizing you don't have time to maintain all your skills gained from past hobbies anymore and have to let something slip.
