I’ve had a similar thought and wanted to explore a potential language learning technique that focuses on word/sound combos. Start with singles and pairs then build to longer strings into sentence frags and full sentences. But I don’t know how to compile a list like that.

Why is it going to be a catastrophe? I usually work it but not this year so I’m curious about the bullet I’m dodging.
