If I was better at my job, we wouldn't have to worry about cancer. Here for the science and the animals... I'm also enjoying the astronomy and nature pics.
Waaaiit a second. Trump is a sexual predator? This changes everything.

They are cutting positions across the HHS including cancer researchers. Positions that can take up to a year to fill with qualified candidates are being cut without a single days notice. Sweeping cuts are going to save millions while the Broligarchs are getting billions.

CDC to lose one-tenth of workforce under Trump administration probationary job cuts
Nearly 1,300 employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are being forced out under the Trump administration’s move to get rid of all probationary employees.

This is the ultimate goal and when it's time to pass tax cuts for the rich, the right will be on their pulpits touting failed economic theories about how lower taxes on the rich = job creation. The richest in man in the world cut 80% of twitter jobs and now he's trying it with the gov't
"In chaotic Washington blitz, Elon Musk’s goal becomes clear: Shrink government, control data, and replace “the human workforce with machines.”

No one is replacing us with machines. AYFKM? The guy who built the shitty cybertruck, the fake Mars landing, and the made-up transit? Over our dead bodies.

Working in cancer research and clinical trials, I've always hoped that someday I would be out of a job. I just thought that it would be because we made a medical breakthrough, not because politicians and oligarchs would wage war on medical research to handout tax breaks to the rich.

As of this morning, we can’t publish, post funding or interest notices, or give public presentations until the materials have been reviewed by a political appointee.

Nothing to see here.. just your average day in scientific research

So do I keep reviewing SAEs and responding to clinical trial coordinators or not?

The answer is, I will break the law and do my job even though I'm not excepted.

The country doesn't collapse because there are too many people with integrity to keep it going and almost none of them are in congress

For those unfamiliar with the process, I run oncology clinical trials for the Gvm't. I have 3 IND's in the FDA right now.. we are trying to save lives. Our enrollment will cease. It's not even clear if I can communicate with my clinicians and the FDA. People are going to lose lives and loved ones

Breaking news: Republicans rejected House Speaker Johnson’s bipartisan plan to avert a government shutdown, as Donald Trump and Elon Musk joined a broad swath of the House GOP on Wednesday to condemn a compromise bill full of Democratic policy priorities.

Unless Congress acts, a shutdown deadline looms just past midnight Saturday.

Newsmax and the likes of Jim Jordan have completely inverted the history of January 6. Listen to this. The truth is exactly the opposite.

Exactly this.. possibly the last chance we see congress functioning as it should with a bipartisan CR. To me, this is a win for Biden

Sure an actual bipartisan funding bill would be better than a CR but obviously not happening before the new congress.
Hard not to get a bit nauseated reading/watching the latest hot Trumpworld gos when absolutely none of this was necessary. We should not be worrying about a government shutdown right now. But the chaos is titillating for some folks.

This has to be pushed further than CNN and Bluesky. I hope some of the prominent figures in the party are willing to go on Fox or whatever other propaganda machines are out there and repeat this message.

Had some interesting conversations with some higher level gvm't healthcare providers and scientists this evening. The consensus is, no one knows what the hell to expect.

That is not what you want out of the workforce trying to prevent the general public from dying to infectious disease or cancer.

Not to be the enabler here.. but until I saw this post, I didn't know wtf this position was. I'm pretty sure most of the world get's their American news from TikTok and fast food commercials

A $1B gift from Bloomberg made medical school at JHU for most middle class families free in perpetuity. We just spent $16B on a single presidential election.. Elon spent $0.25B to buy an election. Fixing healthcare in America is not a matter of money, it's a matter of priorities.
December 13, 2024 at 4:33 AM
Of course there is fraud, waste and abuse in any system that has large sums of money associated with it. In the case of SNAP, only about 1% of the life saving resources it provides fall under that category. That's about $1.15B, a huge number, until you consider $16B was spent on this election alone

Good luck...

FY 2022, the federal government spent ~$271 billion to compensate those civilian employees. About 60 percent of that total was spent on civilian personnel working in the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Homeland Security.

I've had some serious discourse with my Mom in my life but I've never needed her to call people on my behalf for professional reasons. I've also never worried about the #metoo movement or workplace crackdowns on harassment. Mainly because I'm not an asshole and I've never assaulted a woman.

As a teen, I was paid $0.01 to leave flyers on/around doors. It was for a local shop (who shorted me because they didn't believe I could hit several hundred houses in a day).

Can't we bring that back, but with news? I don't believe America is this stupid, I just think they are uninformed.

Serious question.. does RFK Jr. even know what a vaccine is? Since I'm developing them for cancer interception, could we just rename them? Go with some sort of immunomodulatory generic name?

The new questions we have to ask ourselves in medicinal science 😞🧪
