Before the ACA there were no National Health Insurance standards. No minimums. Companies were licensed from state to state, and there was no standard for benefits. People would buy "full coverage" to find it only covered the hospital, no medical. Comparison shopping would be very difficult.
Dr. Oz is clearly a moron who, incredibly, doesn't understand anything about how the insurance system works.

But also: Conservatives genuinely believe that people want to spend endless hours "choosing the insurance that's best for them." They don't. They want good, secure health care. It's simple.
Dr Oz: "If you had a check in the mail, you could buy the insurance you thought was best for you"

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

I'm always vaguely amused when severe weather warnings' borders are one to four blocks away from my home.

It's never worked out to be that exact a prediction. But it'd be even more amusing if it were -- cross the street, no rain. Cross back, downpour. 🤣

@evilhat.bsky.social: So, random question -- are there official PDF copies available for the various MotW books I've picked up? I seem to vaguely remember mention of such a thing, but thought it required a receipt that I didn't keep.

True? False? Good points either way.

Continuing my exploration into the idea of having locally-executable APIs/applications that will eventually be deployed as #Python #AWS #LambdaFunctions. At this point, I've got a working local #FastAPI mapping requests to a defined Lambda handler.

While trudging through my day-to-day activities, I had an inspiration about how to implement local #API access for #AWS #APIGateway code using #Python #LambdaFunctions for back-end logic, by overriding #FastAPI and #Flask #decorators.

Busy day today, so I forgot to post about my latest blog article this morning.

Taking a closer look at the challenges involved with detecting and setting test-expectations for managed attributes (and their equivalents) in #Python classes.

Random observation as I'm letting #LOTR #FOTR play as background noise. I looked up just in time to see the fellowship start down the Moria stairs, fleeing the Balrog.

As it turns out, there were some fundamental problems with the testing-strategy I had in mind for testing the PACT processes (problems with how I'd planned to implement those tests, not with which tests needed to be implemented).
When not to mock or patch
