Most recent targets are Steam & Itch.io, but they have also pressured websites like Pixiv, Patreon, Fansly, Onlyfans & MORE for years, applying draconian standards for what kind of adult/pornographic content their users can host & sell. If we as consumers & creators want to regain ground on this issue, we have to make our voice heard. HOW? BOMBARD WITH PHONE CALLS Collective Shout, the org that lobbied to have Steam & Itch.io change their TOS, did so with only around 1000 phone calls. Visa & MC have backed down from pressuring Onlyfans to remove adult content entirely due to public backlash. I'm writing today to bring up my concerns that bill C-2 will make it more difficult for immigrants to travel and live in Canada as well as the appalling kowtowing to American authoritarianism it proposes with the CLOUD act deal. The CLOUD act would give American law enforcement-- an organization built on and to uphold systemic racism, violence, and unchecked capitalism-- the ability to demand data from Canadian tech companies. Canadian tech would not even be able to share that they had to hand over this information. Who now has the right to privacy in the UK? Will anyone who leaves a digital footprint in Canada have to answer to American police? The United States has been rapidly speeding headfirst, joyously, into fascism that bills like C-2 have greased the chute for. In the US we are seeing universities, medical institutions, government bodies bow to truly horrific demands by the President. The irony is, when institutions do fight back against demands to "end DEI," to block women access to abortions, people of colour fair voting rights, LGBTQ+ the right to exist, the Trump regime backs down with it's tail between its legs. Between Prime Minister Carney's limp scolding of the Israeli government for it's ongoing genocide of Palestinians and the introduction of bill C-2, I'm concerned Canada is greasing that same chute down to fascism for us to whizz down in the future. What are you doing to help immigrants, who keep Canadian culture vibrant? What are you doing to protect Canadians from the facism spreading in the US government? What are you doing for the people of Gaza?
