@crsugimoto.bsky.social observes that with current Trump cuts to science (about 50%), China will take over as the top science spender in the world this year (without the cuts this would happen by 2030 or so).

Not that the original authors left anything out; they made subtle but typical coding decisions about labor force status that combined different variables. If the reproducer did not know Stata or read code closely, they made other idiosyncratic coding choices. Here is a table with examples.

If these results are representative of computational reproduction, it would take more than 1 replication per study to achieve a 95% reliability that the reproduction is correct.

We crowdsourced 85 teams to indep. computationally reproduce results from a single study in randomized conditions. Reproducibility:

• depends heavily on the transparency of materials
• high (~95%) for same sign/sig, but low (btw. 48-77% depending on transparency) when requiring within 0.1 effects

It also includes a multiverse analysis as the data-generating model of support for redistribution is unclear and has many variations across the redistributive preferences literature. We argued with the reviewers and were allowed to present a #multiverse as our 'main' model @meta-rep.bsky.social 🧪
