I should have been clearer. When I say the business model isn't working, I mean two things ...
1. It's not working for democracy.
2. Journalists are required to be ever more sensational in their headlines and comments in order to get readers to jump over the paywall.

Ultimately,it's just a corrupt way to get you to pay more for something you'll never own.

Yes. But sadly, I think politicians across the democratic spectrum have waited far too long. It took them a decade to even realise there was a hybrid attack going on!

Yes. Sorry, I wasn't referring to that article, just the landscape in general. Journalists need paying, of course. But the present business model of paywalls and registrations is obvioisly not working. Where are the digital equivalents of the "free" newspapers people used to read in the cafe or pub?

Yes. It says everything you need to know about Blue Labour that they left such appointments in place.

SPOILER ALERT: This is not surprising, as the fascist propaganda machine that backs Putin, Trump and Farage is now in full swing.

If the fascists can do this to the BBC, think what they'll do to the NHS.

It's hard for society to have an adult discussion when all the adult comments are behind a paywall, but the childish ones are handed out for free.

Yes. Intolerable. Either we put our faith in reality or we join the mass delusion of Trump's fantasies. If the latter is forced on us in order to preserve a "special relationship" that's now dead, we're lost. If the BBC doc had been about any other crooked leader, no one would have batted an eyelid.

Yes. Personally, I find the worst aspect of it all how easily the so-called "gatekeepers of democracy" have fallen over. The people in these positions have been paid extremely well, and enjoyed lots of privileges. But when they were finally asked to show character and backbone, they surrendered.

Yes. That's why the BBC backdown is so dangerous.
1. The fundamental question is, did Trump incite an insurrection?
2. If he did, the edit was justified.
3. If he didn't, it was not justified.
4. The Trump regime says he didn't.
5. Facts and trials say he did.
6. Who should journalists believe?
