AirNZ have a new ad with the slogan "where time flies" - I've updated the slogan to "where time drags on and on and on". The reality from a passenger point of view: getting to the airport way ahead of time to avoid traffic delays or security delays or check in delays or delays of any kind because you dont want to incur the wrath of AirNZ's fury at being late. Only to discover AirNZ have sent you a text saying "soz, flight delayed" or better "flight cancelled but joy of joys you have been booked on the next available flight...4 hours from now!". And what reason do they provide ... none at all but you can check the AirNZ website for further updates (reader - there are none). And having cut short your weekend break do you expect to have any issues on the return flight? Oh hell yes. Another text or no text at all until you open the app to check in and there's a message saying "soz again, delayed / cancelled". This time you're canny and head to the service desk where you'd think their customer service rep would be helpful or at the very least friendly. But they've already taken your money and are all out of cares. They explain the reason for this particular cancellation is "engineering issues" - the catch all phrase for "we dont give a fuck". Lucky for you they've rebooked you on 1.5 hr flight to an entirely different city where you can enjoy fruits of another 1.5 hr wait for the return to the city you wanted to go to - and dont you dare talk back, just suck it up buttercup. So instead of a 1 hr flight home at the end of a curtailed weekend away you have to endure a further 4 - 5 hrs of time dragging on and on while AirNZ play at providing a reliable service.

A Nicola Willis post on Facebook (presumably): I sometimes have a dream where I think about what it would be like to wake up and be Grant Robertson and have a huge money bazooka by my bed that I could spray around and rain delights upon the nation with. But actually, that's not the job we were elected to do. We were elected to do the responsible task of cleaning up after the party. And no one tends to thank the person doing the dishes in the kitchen, but that is for our Government to do. And we take great pride in doing it so that we can put New Zealand in a better, stronger position for the future.
