This hornworm on my tomatoes has been parasitized by a braconid wasp. The wasp lays its eggs under its skin. The larvae eat the caterpillar’s insides, eventually emerging to spin little cocoons. When the wasps hatch, they protect your tomatoes from more hungry hornworms, so leave them be!
