Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Zuck is not having a midlife crisis, he's pivoting to an open embrace of fascism. The aesthetics are secondary and primarily about his awareness of how many people can be deceived by even the worst attempts of oligarchs to pretend to be cool and normal.

The toothlessness is the point.
My bipartisan legislation to recognize the Bald Eagle as our national bird just passed Congress and is now headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law! 🦅

Haha. Just read this, and even being primed to hate it (shout out @puneet.bsky.social), it's impressive how annoying this is. Perfect 10/10 NYer rage bait. No notes.
A lot of people are hating on this but I think it's a pretty eye-opening account of what it's like for non-NYC-savvy travelers (aka most of the country) to experience the city

The subway can be intimidating for folks who have only known suburbs

I travel 100 days a year, but I'd never been to New York City until now. There were literal highs but disappointing lows.
I spend a third of my year traveling, but I somehow didn't make it to New York City until this winter. My first trip to the Big Apple was interesting.

Rashford stunk midweek, but that's your top goalscorer and most consistent big game performer. Garnacho's decision making has been suspect, but despite the online hysteria, he's been the best and most productive forward this season.

Big cojones call.
Ruben Amorim has confirmed the decision to leave Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the United squad was based purely on selection.

Neither of them are injured and both trained this morning.

The Brooklyn Defenders obtained all nine years of data from the NYPD's ShotSpotter program—and found that more than 83 percent of the gunfire detection system's alerts were never confirmed to be gunshots at all.

@nickpinto.bsky.social has the story:

83 Percent of ShotSpotter Alerts Might Not Have Been Gunfire at All
New data offers the deepest look yet at the NYPD’s very expensive, not very accurate gunfire detection system.

The idea of "ethical capitalism" is such a ridiculous liberal fantasy.

It. Cannot. Exist.

Capitalism *must* be exploitative. It is inherent. Under capitalism, it is never enough that someone wins. Someone else has to lose.

Human need under capitalism is not simply “a byproduct of generating profit” but of its accumulation. Capital reshapes needs to serve its endless expansion by subordinating humanity to markets. Only by ending this crap can production be oriented toward true human liberation/need

Im trying to be more forgiving on here, but liberals co-opting radical language and centering themselves bc white people are facing their first civil rights backslide in a century *really* bothers me.
