UVA - Prev: Comms for Karen Baker for Congress & Vice Chair for Washington County Democrats. All views are my own.
$50 million. That’s only a portion of how much was ripped from rural Southwest & Southside VA by House Republicans and the Trump administration. This was money for fire trucks, roads, healthcare, clean water, and more. These aren’t partisan projects, they're basic human needs.

It’s remarkable to see Washington County Democrats out in force protesting the dangerous effects of the Trump & Elon administration in my hometown of rural Washington County, VA (a county that went 76% for Trump) this afternoon!

Rural.gov used to be a hub for rural communities to access federal resources — housing programs, broadband expansion, infrastructure funding, and more. Now? It's offline thanks to the current administration. This is another typical example of rural America being trashed and ignored.

Rural Virginians would be hit hardest if Medicaid expansion is rolled back, leaving thousands without access to affordable healthcare. Many rural hospitals rely heavily on Medicaid expansion patients to maintain financial stability. This is yet another example of rural folk being left behind.
Hundreds of thousands of Virginians could lose insurance coverage if Medicaid expansion is rolled back
Since the November election, Republican leaders at the federal level have shown themselves to be open to making cuts to Medicaid.

Interesting article about the challenges Democrats face in rural America. "Once the party of the working class, many blue-collar Americans now see Democrats as the party of out-of-touch social elitism."

Worth reading.

Andy Beshear's strong approval rating in a predominantly red state, where most counties are rural, is a clear testament to the power of prioritizing the issues that truly matter to rural, red-leaning voters.
In Kentucky, we’re showing that when you focus on the things that matter—record economic development, expanding access to high-speed internet and health care and building the infrastructure for a modern economy—voters understand you care about them.
