Was just reminded of this gem. Please treat yourself to half an hour of hilarity. You don't have to be a Shakespeare fan to enjoy. youtu.be/p4a_r9H5NSs?...

For the first time in my career, which is of no small duration, I am not performing tonight and my understudy is. I'm fine, it's an understudy performance but it's still a very strange thing and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. I am seeing the show so that will be fun and another first.

I'm finally, finally getting to see The Blood Countess with @idlemusetheatre.bsky.social, a show I did violence design on but have not managed to actually make it to until closing weekend.

"This relatively straight-forward story is a testament to the importance of theatre and storytelling – and laughter – in an increasingly dark world. It is a much-needed, fun night out at the theatre. And it’s a very good show!"

"This play is a love letter aimed at every theatergoer and aficionado of the Bard about the legacy of William Shakespeare.

Highly Recommended"

The Jeffs are pretty famous for getting shit wrong but passing on recommending Book of Will is shocking even by their low standards.

Goddamn, that felt fucking good.

Tonight is the first preview for The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson, one of the two best scripts I've ever read (Promethean produced the other one back in '18) and I am so proud of the work that the we're all doing, cast, crew, everyone. Come see us!

Attn all ICE agents! Here’s an announcement from our front window: Chicago hates you, and you are not welcome here!

It is wild to think that our first preview for The Book of Will is two weeks from tonight. What's even more bonkers is that I think we'll be ready for it. This is noteworthy only because our first rehearsal was only 16 days ago and that is absolute madness.

It's going to be so, so good.

I've just figured out that the best way way for me to approach the Jaggard character in a useful way that doesn't veer into English (we're not doing accents) is to channel Andrew Robinson as plain, simple Garak. I'll have to tone that down ultimately, probably, but for now my ass is leaning into it.

Yesterday was the 12th anniversary of my joining Promethean Theatre Ensemble, which is absolutely bonkers to think about. Last night was also our first night of table work for Book of Will and that was the best way to commemorate the milestone. Tonight, more table work which rules, love table work.

So close to first rehearsal, just a short CTA commute and a quick mosey and there I shall be. Feels so good already, the time since RUR flew by but also I am so, so ready. I'm even off book for one of my characters, which I've never even attempted (or wanted to attempt.)

Eight days until rehearsals start for Book of Will and I'm CTA off book for Burbage. I've never tried to start a rehearsal process off book before but needs must for this. Next up are four pages that make up Jaggard's big lift and I think I'm going to be able to pull that off before we start.

Damn, just heard the news that Jerry Bloom died. A Chicago storefront legend I was lucky enough to share the stage with twice. A wonderful actor, a lovely person, and just an all around gentleman. He'll be missed terribly but more importantly, he'll be remembered.

They lived well that lived onstage

Getting started on my fall show earlier than normal, not aiming to start rehearsals off book but with a shorter than usual rehearsal process, the closer I can start, the better.

I saw a post suggesting that a stage version of Subspace Rhapsody was in the works but I'm skeptical that it's real. It's a single source from almost a year ago and, frankly, good, that sounds like an absolutely terrible idea but also, damn, I'd love sheet music for I'm The X for my audition book.

So long, R.U.R., you were a wonderful experience with excellent people and extincting the human race was very cathartic. Now for two months off (give or take) and then back at it in the fall, so keep an eye out for that announcement soon!

Forgot a prop today, managed to make it work but the moment didn't work nearly as well as if I'd just remembered my fucking prop. Hopefully I'll only be mad at myself for days and not years (I'll accept weeks if that's what my brain insists upon.)

It's slightly disorienting, having a Monday show tonight. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited for it, but it's definitely got me feeling slightly unmoored in time.

Love to be the only cast member not mentioned in a review, even a very negative one. That feels good, really fucking affirming.
