Good piece! Quick note - the data you show for "utilities" appears to be the CPI data for "Utility (Piped) Gas Service" - that's natural gas utilities specifically. In the CPI data electric utilities are up 5.1% year over year (still higher than overall inflation but much less extreme).

Nevada has recouped almost all of the increase in retail electricity prices experienced since 2021.

At the same time net generation from solar in NV more than doubled since 2021.

Yeah that agricultural character right next to a substation, plastics company, and gravel lot. Absurd.

DOE assumes only "Tier 1" resources identified by NERC are added by 2030. Here's NERC's Tier 1 and 2 (Tier 1 is generally the nearer-term additions) combined and you quickly see that DOE is essentially assuming we stop building new generation around 2027: www.nerc.com/pa/RAPA/ra/R...

Lost in the wave of many terrible things, this is so dumb. The bill changes DOE sec. 1706 loan guarantees from repurposing and repowering of energy infrastructure to reduce emissions to "Energy Dominance Finance". 🤦

Sometimes the new coverage of wonky environmental regulatory stuff doesn't quite capture what's at stake.

EPA argues that US power sector GHG emissions aren't "significant", and therefore they don't have to regulate them. Read the proposed rollback here: subscriber.politicopro.com/f/?id=000001...

Some great data in this @policyintegrity.bsky.social report.

If the US power sector were a country, it would have been the 6th biggest emitter since 1990:
