Good: Allergy shots have made it so I don't need daily meds anymore.
Bad: I forgot to take my allergy meds before getting my shot.
(My allergist hooked me up with some Zyrtec though so we're good.)

Christmas vacation is over and today was my first day back teaching. So many of my kids told me how happy they were to be back in my class. It’s the best compliment a teacher can get.

102 years ago today, Frederick Banting and Charles Best injected a 14 year old boy dying of diabetic ketoacidosis with pancreatic extract from a dog. Within 24 hours, his blood sugar was almost normal.
Six years ago this month, my son became Type I diabetic. He is alive today thanks to them.

It’s my favorite sort of day today - it’s cold, it’s rainy, and since classes start next week I don’t have to go anywhere today. I plan to spend the day with a good book and a nice cup of tea.

I had a rough go in 2023 and 2024 and quit doing a lot of things that made me happy. 2025 is the year I find my joy again and this is my first project of 2025.

My biggest concern at Thanksgiving used to be that the library would be closed for days. I used to check out a huge stack of books and still worry. It felt like one of Dante’s circles of Hell to be stuck at home without a book to read.
Now though, I can get a book with a click in Libby.
