So.

I reckon we have enough of us to make this a thing.

And if not, there are worse ways for me to spend my Bank Holiday Monday evening than tweeting into a void while watching the World’s Greatest Legal Movie.

Monday 25th August 2025.

8pm.

My Cousin Vinnie, #LegalLiveTweet

Who’s in?
To mark the publication week of #TheCutThroatTrial, a part of me is tempted to relive the greatest ever film about a criminal trial on Monday 25th August.

A Legal Live Tweet to keep us cosy on the evening of Bank Holiday Monday?

Anybody fancy it?

Put on your astronaut helmet, it's time to fly to the supermassive black hole at the centre of the #MilkyWay! 🧑🚀

Produced by the @ehtelescope.bsky.social (which includes ALMA, where ESO is a partner), the final image shows the black hole in polarised light.

I decided to move the main door to the front aspect and enlarge the footprint to maximise the space. A plant room to the left and a cloakroom to the right.

The rear extension started with digging footings (that kept collapsing so needed shuttering), concrete blocks and pouring concrete. Lots of prep with the whacker plate resulted in a very solid base which certainly came in handy later.

Before we started on the externals though, my COVID lockdown project in 2020 was raising the floor of the loft to fit more insulation in. 100mm was all that could be fitted before but there's now 300mm and a new loft hatch (no photo but it's loads better and doesn't leak cold air).

At the back was this 1972 conservatory that again was poorly insulated and had a collapsing roof; an oven in the summer and an ice box in the winter. To create extra space, a full width extension was planned with a new bedroom upstairs.

Starting with the front. This porch was added in 1972 and had no insulation other than 25mm sheets of polystyrene in the cavity. It was so cold in winter that the doors were always kept shut and you could feel the cold air layer as you walked downstairs.

This is 'before' for my big re-build. It was delayed due to Covid and my other work but it's been a labour of love for the last few years. The aim is to bring the house up to modern standards (or better) and make it an efficient and nice place to live. More to follow and happy to answer any Qs.
