And while I think there are uses for a pre-RLHF model and that that model has interesting properties that are lost in RLHF, no company will ever sell you them.

A lot of Grok was Elon wanting a model "without the tuning" or RLHF step - and while OpenAI and Anthropic will tell you "those models are unusable," the real problem is that they will output literally anything from the internet in its most ghastly form.

Yes - 100% of the tone of ChatGPT (or Claude) is from the RLHF step which is a Kenyan who is paid to try and make the LLM nice.
