I suppose I'd rather play CCC teams earlier in the season than later.

Maybe? I might be reading that wrong.

I noticed we are playing every weekend from the start of the season to the World Cup, then every weekend through the last game in Nov.

That means 4-5 matches played through INTL dates without a full roster of players.

Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President

(the series barely got into the medicine/inventions part, which is a third of the book)

Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President
The inspiration for the Netflix series Death by Lightning – now streaming! • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The extraordinary account of James Garfield's rise from poverty to the American presidency, and the dramatic history of his assassination and legacy, from the bestselling author of The River of Doubt. "Crisp, concise and revealing history.... A fresh narrative that plumbs some of the most dramatic days in U.S. presidential history." —The Washington Post James Abram Garfield was one of the most extraordinary men ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, a renowned congressman, and a reluctant presidential candidate who took on the nation's corrupt political establishment. But four months after Garfield's inauguration in 1881, he was shot in the back by a deranged office-seeker named Charles Guiteau. Garfield survived the attack, but became the object of bitter, behind-the-scenes struggles for power—over his administration, over the nation's future, and, hauntingly, over his medical care. Meticulously researched, epic in scope, and pulsating with an intimate human focus and high-velocity narrative drive, The Destiny of the Republic brings alive a forgotten chapter of U.S. history.Look for Candice Millard’s latest book, River of the Gods.

If you enjoyed the series, the book its based on is one of my all-time favorite reads. For historical non-fiction it reads like a novel. There was so much in the book that the series just didn't have time for in four episodes.

... considering Seattle is the 15th largest market

... considering the number of Fortune 500 companies

Go Aurora!

Counter-counter-counterpoint maybe we just leave the skin on the cats? 😜

DC United is another variable, having rivalries with PHL and NYRB, but I have them SE. (Willing trade for more Messi?)

The thing with 4 is it also divides the TX teams. I don't think the league would want that.
November 14, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Serious contenders:

4. What we will get, an expansive NW
5. What I want, SD grouped with Texas teams. MNUFC in central.

Toss the Loons a bone for being cold in the winter!
November 14, 2025 at 11:39 PM
Counterpoint: June 2024 MNUFC Results. We aren't going to miss it.

This stretch without healthy DSC, Lod, Kervin, Rosales, Harvey, was just too much depth to lose.

But if we had the players, would we have had more home playoffs? CCC? We'll never know.

Also this is 💯:

"The size of the market matters far less than the ability for that team to completely capture it."
November 14, 2025 at 5:58 PM
Thanks for this Wes. I felt your take was nuanced!

While I generally support the schedule change (I really dislike watching MLS during INTL windows/tournaments, it sucks, even in good weather), I'm still very weary that MLS can execute this properly.
November 14, 2025 at 5:54 PM
In 2025 we had 3 MLS reg season home matches in June - mid July

+1 inseason friendly nobody went to (which team can still do, could do more in preseason tune up vs bigger clubs)
+2 Open Cup matches (which hasn't announced changes yet)
November 13, 2025 at 10:11 PM
One more: the 2026 MLS schedule is going to be awful with a World Cup break in June. There will be so many games played over International breaks. They'll cram in more midweek games. Its going to be not great.
November 13, 2025 at 10:06 PM
MLS teams need to be able to develop and sell players to help bring in more, better players! It will help offset or cover some potential revenue loss from a cold early Dec match.
November 13, 2025 at 9:59 PM
It already would have been better the past two seasons! Remember the 2024 mid-season swoon? That's because we were missing out best players for a month! Copa America/Euros. We won 1 of 7, something like that.

We might already be in the CCC if not for that.
November 13, 2025 at 9:57 PM
Lastly, I think the team will need win STHs over with something. I want puffer coats!
November 13, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Then Tani was sold, like 6 weeks before the playoffs started. That didn't feel right either.

I want to cheer for a team in a league that is taken seriously and takes its competitions seriously. This will help with that.
November 13, 2025 at 9:50 PM
I also remember that 2-4 June match against San Diego, with both teams high up the table, only for both teams to be missing 4-5 starters each, including DSC on Intl break.

That wasn't fun, despite the great weather. It was a missed opportunity to have a top of table clash!
November 13, 2025 at 9:49 PM
Last week game was amazing because of the events on the field, it didn't matter that I was a little cold.
November 13, 2025 at 9:47 PM
And I see Dan already responded to that, so....

Nothing to see here. 🤣
