This splendid image was taken, by Carlos Kiko Fairbairn, at Teresópolis (Brazil) a few days before the conjunction of Venus and Mars (12 March 2022).

On that date, the two planets appeared close to each other in the sky as seen from Earth.

I reprocessed 4 short videos from the occultation of Mars by the moon on January 13th, and am glad to get a better image. At only 20 degrees above the horizon and just emerging from behind the trees it was literally lucky imaging!

Supernova remnants (SNRs). Would you believe, both of these SNRs are roughly the same age and size. Only difference is distance!

Simeis 147, bottom right - 3,000 lya

Gives you a cool perspective on distance in space!

Watching these red states attack federal funding—apparently not realizing that most of their states are broke and would completely collapse without it—will always be hilarious to me.

“Give it all back to the states!”

Sit down, Cletus. Your state can’t buy sandwiches for kids.

Most importantly, federal funds supported my role in the careers of the students that I’ve worked with.

Plus, I have mapped the surface of a star that’s 7 million times farther from Earth than the Sun. I have predicted the pitch of starquakes that we can hear with light. And on and on. 🧪🔭
Post the amazing science things you have done with federal funding.

Here is irony:

trump supporters wave the "Don't Tread on Me" flag, but embrace Trump's executive orders, similar to a king's decrees, which tread on the same freedoms the Gadsden Flag symbolizes.

This may be the strangest planet yet discovered. It seems to be a Pluto-size world circling the remains of three dead stars: two white dwarfs & a pulsar, as massive as the Sun but no bigger than Brooklyn.

If confirmed, it is also the smallest exoplanet known. 🧪🔭
