When cities clear homeless encampments, workers often take people’s belongings — including important documents, survival gear and irreplaceable mementos.

Over and over, people across the U.S. told ProPublica they were devastated by such losses: https://propub.li/3WScD3g

It’s meant to exhaust and demoralize us. Choose the one or two or three places you’re going make a difference. You can’t do everything but we can all do something, and there are more of us. Don’t be overwhelmed into inaction.
Every time I remember Stephen Miller designed this rush of orders to burn me out specifically I get a new burst of energy from the spite alone. The very thought of my exhaustion giving him an ounce of joy makes me want to burst through walls

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”

Striking argument from California AG Rob Bonta: If local law enforcement complied with Trump's demand that they carry out his immigration agenda, it would actually make CA residents *less* safe.

On the pod, Bonta spells this out:

ProPublica spoke to about 150 people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words.

This is what they wrote.

The babies are very glad we are home. This is our Elphaba, so-named seven years ago and very confused lately because she keeps hearing her name from strangers on the social media feeds. It’s clearly exhausting.

Survived the holiday trip. When the lifelong right-wing parents voted blue and are scared of what’s coming, it a)makes holiday conversation darker but easier than usual, but b)is fucking terrifying.

It’s been a weird week and a half. A lot of (white) people seem conflicted about how political to be in public. An individual with whom I am at odds professionally saw my lapel pin and said “wow, you’re wearing your politics on your sleeve.” I said, “I find it saves a lot of time.” I’m not going 1/2

Saw a rumor that pet photos are the customary entry fee, so here is the lovely Lola (she’s a showgirl) taking one for the team.
