In this study we used analytical chemistry techniques to examine the mining, transport, provenance and chaine operatoire of ochre use ca. ~48kya - 2kya in Eswatini. Lion Cavern, the oldest known intensively mined ochre deposit in the world, is central to this work. 🧵
