Remembering 9265, Lance Corporal Fred Moore, 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Second son of Samuel and Edith Moore of The Street, Bramford. Crossed to France 30th May 1915. Died of wounds aged 21. Buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord).

Remembering Captain Alexander Arbuthnott Hughes, 2/South Wales Borderers, son of Colonel Arbuthnott Hughes, RA, & Caroline Hughes, of Darmsden Bushes, Tye Lane, Bramford. Killed in action 1st July 1916. Buried in Y Ravine Cemetery.

These two cottages stood on "Gables Corner" - the junction of Paper Mill Lane and Ship Lane. Believed to be part of a larger Wealden Hall house but demolished in the 1960's and the site redeveloped.

Remembering 15239, Private Oliver Lay, 1st Battalion Suffolk Regiment. Son of Ambrose and Emma Lay of The Street, Bramford. Born 1895. 2nd Cousin to Arthur Garrod and Willie Garrod.
Crossed to France 6th March 1915. Killed in action on or since 8th May 1915.

Remembering 15260 Private James Leech 1st Suffolk.
Crossed to France on 6th March 1915 and was killed in action on the 5th May 1915, age 24, during the Second Battle of Ypres. He has no known grave and is recorded on the Menin Gate.

Learning tonight about our very own resident 16th century map maker, John Darby. In fact, we had two apparently - the other was John Holland. Who knew? (We didn't obviously 🙄)
