Oh, I thought you were saying it would be legit if they were architects. I think we're agreeing that either way, it's painful to have an unelected board of busybodies control how the city looks.
October 2, 2025 at 4:00 AM
Probably both? Who cares if they are registered architects. The project already has architects who designed it. What are these people adding?
September 30, 2025 at 6:36 AM
I know you can't see it, but this is the equivalent of Netanyahu saying that anyone who doesn't fully support the war in Gaza is an antisemite.
September 28, 2025 at 12:11 AM
This is all irrelevant if Dems keep losing. I think that our disagreement is primarily on the political question: you think that this is a good issue for Dems to run on, despite the polling. I don't. Neither of us is in charge so it's ok to just disagree and leave it at that.
September 26, 2025 at 4:20 PM
The data shows that sports issue isn't persuading anyone. The average voter considers this for the first time and thinks 'yea i don't want my daughter competing against someone who was a dude last year'. You are giving these people way too much credit.
September 26, 2025 at 2:44 AM
Yes, I replied that since polling on the issue shows that more Americans now oppose trans women in sports than they did 5 years ago, it appears that this strategy is not working.

This is not the topic we've been discussing and I never said Dems should oppose gender affirming care. I've been making a narrow argument about the sports issue.
September 25, 2025 at 9:51 PM
If Dems had tried to go all out and push gay marriage in 1985 they simply would have lost their elections. Am I wrong? You can't get too far ahead of popular opinion. I'm really not sure what you see as the alternative here. They can't just change people's minds.
September 25, 2025 at 8:58 PM
Looking back at my reply, I didn't even say purity test?
September 25, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Actually it's just a common phrase that everyone knows, whether or not it's been amplified by influencers recently. Accusing people who disagree w you of being paid trolls or whatever is lazy.
September 25, 2025 at 8:50 PM
You are saying if they don't support trans women in women's sports they will lose the queer or maybe just the trans vote? That seems highly unlikely given how the other party behaves.
September 25, 2025 at 2:45 AM
Does running a race with the intent to help trans people and then losing to Donald Trump effectively secure the rights of trans people?

The people running on unpopular policies and losing are the ones who are actually sacrificing our rights for ideological/moral purity.
September 25, 2025 at 2:42 AM
If the whole point is to persuade people, let's step back for a second and see if this is actually a persuasive message. We've been talking about this for a number of years now. Has it made people more supportive of trans people, or less?
September 25, 2025 at 2:37 AM
Therefore, I think it would be better for them to not run on that policy, so that they are more likely to win.
September 25, 2025 at 2:34 AM
Reasoning:

1) Republicans are bad

2) Democrats are better

3) It would be good to have Dems win more

4) Dems are less likely to win if they run on unpopular policies

5) Trans women playing women's sports is very unpopular

6) Dems are more likely to lose if they support that policy
September 25, 2025 at 2:33 AM
I think it is transphobic. I don't think it's worth losing the senate for the next 10+ years over. Follow the chain reasoning in my next reply and tell me at which step you disagree.
September 25, 2025 at 2:27 AM
My rights don't have anything to do with it. You're operating in this absolutist framework of fairness and civil rights, and I agree that's the perfect world. But look at the fucking world, it is super not perfect. You have to make trade-offs and prioritize. Basic safety before sports participation
September 24, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Because it's a very unpopular position, and Republicans (who will soon controll CBS and TikTok) have the power to make it salient. Remember post 2016 discussions of which marginal issue made Hillary lose? If Dems want power back they can't be running on unpopular positions.
September 24, 2025 at 3:33 PM
I would gladly talk to a trans person about whether they would trade participation in school sports for freedom from actual violent persecution by the govt.
September 24, 2025 at 3:21 PM
Highschool sports is not life and death. Having the federal govt controlled by people who think trans people are terrorists is.
September 24, 2025 at 3:20 PM
About two thirds of Americans support dividing athletes based on their biological sex at birth.

Options:

A) Dems support trans athletes, lose, and Republicans use the state to do bad stuff

B) Dems concede the trans athlete issue, win, and protect trans people, democracy, biosphere, etc.
September 24, 2025 at 3:48 AM
Ok but this is probably a necessary position for a national politician to take in order to win. The Harrel endorsement is much worse.
September 23, 2025 at 10:27 AM
What is the theory behind these rules? The compliant design looks much worse. Do planners think it looks better?
March 23, 2025 at 4:55 PM
GOP town halls are full of angry voters, but I doubt most of them are Republicans. You're right though that people are unhappy. I just mean that most people are not keeping track of the details. Flood the zone is generally working, and most people don't know what these departments do anyways.
