I still have 'I'm at the point of tears for my body craving protein' bouts. That's what growing up poor does to your body. Protein becomes like a drug.
But, holy fuck, we didn't wake up crying. We were full. There was popcorn every night after our meal.
That felt normal. Until right now.

I have come to terms with so much of my poverty life, which was made normal in ways that I passed down to my own children without realizing.. But it hit me. Hard. That this was how we didn't experience overnight hunger pangs.
It was the cheapest solution to eat until full. Truly full.

I've been screaming for the past decade that dropping the Q is, in and of itself, violence.. But tell that to 2 generations of children who've swallowed weaponized psycho babble like it's the fucking cure all for their feels. Nevermind that it's literally just (successful) rw propaganda.

My old lady hates being brushed, but I get around that by "petting" her extra when I administer her insulin, and being very, very quick with the comb on her butt. She doesn't mind being petted with the brush these days, so I guess she's accepted that I'm just helping her groom. The comb though...
