A twitter post by @C_Zinkiev: Went on a date with a guy I really like. I dressed nice, did my hair, gave him an extensive 30 minute lecture on coelacanths, yet I haven't heard from him 🤔 the only thing I can think of is perhaps I did not provide enough information on coelacanths?? One of my favorite TTRPG character flaws is "can't help but push the button."

Without downloading new pics, what's your energy going into 2025?
A photo of J.R. the eastern long-beaked echidna at Taronga Zoo. The photo was taken in the Nura Diya night house with the phone's "night sight" mode and so it is a little blurry. J.R. is a large, furry echidna with a few spines poking through his fur. Kind of like a hedgehog with fur, but 20 times the size of any hedgehog. He's around 13 kilograms. He is at an echidna feeder, designed for animals to reach into with their long tongues for food. He is hunched over the feeder and his head is entirely inside of it.

My dad was confused by the FBI's mixed messaging on encryption, so this is the note I sent him back. Use Signal, fuck the feds.

They also hate that civilians can use encryption strong enough that the feds can't break it (that's Signal, WhatsApp, and iMessage). Which is why they've never recommended it until today. They want people to use a secret third thing that no one but the feds can break, and only when they pinky swear that it's really important. That doesn't exist and never will. Anything law enforcement can break is by definition hackable by other people. Use Signal, fuck the feds."
