(imo it may well be dragon fucking that saves the entire tradition of printed novels so if that's what people are enjoying I say let them eat lizard, whatever makes people engage with the written word)

The easiest fix is to get a 3.1 Soundbar. This will have the center speaker which you can individually adjust to hear dialog. Otherwise, you're stuck relying on Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) which automatically quiets loud things, and increases the volume of quiet things.

It is a result of Sound Mixing designed for Home Theater systems with multiple channels. Most dialog is assigned to the Front-Center speaker. If you don't have one, and the media has not been mixed for stereo, what you get is the spill-over from that channel. Your TV might have "Night mode" for DRC.
