Yes, a lot changed after WW2, the UK was buried in war depts & we started up the NHS & Welfare State too (which saved money due to better health of the remaining workforce).

Once we get more battery power storage installed, we won't need Drax burning 200yr old trees or gas power stations on standby to fill spikes in power useage...

And thats exactly why fossil fuel lobbies pay MPs & National Grid to resist installing battery storage!

Hardly "utter shambles".
It correctly identified everyone who left, but missed a relatively small number (compared to how many it actually checked) who came back via different airports...

Its just a trial, after all.
Of course, its very distressing to those wrongly targetted - but its very unlikely anyone able to travel abroad would be badly harmed by HMRC with-holding child benefit (~£26/week) for a couple of payments.

Its only really an issue for harvesting, but if the panels sit on what is basically an elevated roof rather than in narrow lanes thats not a major issue.
It can all be designed around.

It seems many (including Telegraph) are confused about what OBR gets told vs what ends up in the Budget.
The "Front Page scoop" about income tax is just something the Government have asked the OBR to look at it one of the 3 or4 packages of possible measures provided.
The Budget isn't finalised yet.
