Replit is an online coding IDE that my school used, up until they limited free account to 3 projects and is now going full tilt on ChatGPT integration and now Vibe "coding"
Yep, glad we left that

Honestly recommend this for anyone looking to implement the PS1 look into anything (REPO Semi-Bot rig by his_animations on twitter)

Only thing it doesnt do is the (lack of) depth buffer thing (polygons appearing in front of other polygons when it shouldn't be) but that's probably a lot harder to implement accurately without breaking anything

and i must say, the astrobot-like tech demo being paid it just bullshit

and this isn't a processor or GPU problem, this is a recent (2024) M3 macbook air, plenty of RAM as well (16GB)
Now it could be a metal thing (I've heard that it can be a pain sometimes) but it seems unlikely, not impossible but unlikely

The soundtrack for this opening was practically perfect and also is kind of a banger.

the two new colours, dark (seen here) and onyx are nice shades
Dark is a better dark mode fr and Onyx looks like a wireframe (which with the new alignment of the whole chat and sidebar thing (you an see it in the image) reminds me very slightly of some early 2000s designs

like does Nvidia actually not care about RTX anymore (I swear to god don't let me jinx this)

one final FINAL thing. This is not a post slandering Nvidia, the mod devs or anyone else involved (as much as I hate the (lack of) optimisation)
Just an yap way larger than it should be
March 25, 2025 at 9:54 PM
what I don't like is that requirement of Frame Gen and DLSS for "good performance" It's been a decade now, DLSS sure was useful back then because it was just getting off the ground but now we should just have the power and knowhows to make it work RAW, (final one next)

Not to mention my hatred for this rather forceful push with AI. Like yeah, cool tech but can it not be shoved down our throats please Google, Meta, Elon, Nvidia, Apple and everyone else. So yeah, I like the HL2 RTX thing, I like complete dynamic lighting and shadows and stuff, (cont)

is the latest lineup (50 series) is still bad. if you want what I think, I think this upscaling and generation shit is just a compromise for the fact that the Tracing algorithms aren't being optimised (likely will happen later on when the mod is done but I'm talking Hardware). (cont)
March 25, 2025 at 9:54 PM
so I'm not exactly complaining about the 23-35 fps range and I also know Nvidia's "ray" tracing (which is actually path tracing) is very tasking although you would think they would've perfected it like 10 years later (probably a bit too critical) because that performance on what I'm guessing (cont)
March 25, 2025 at 9:54 PM
As soon as I saw the performance on raw output I was annoyed. Now two things, one it's a demo of a free mod it aint gonna be perfect yet that's for sure and two I don't even have the hardware to run it. Also I can comfortably game at 30fps(I played on gen6, gen7 consoles most of my childhood) (cont)

Glass was reflective, shadows were nice and crisp, the skybox fitted perfectly into the Environment texture and the baked VRad lighting was now dynamic. HL2 RTX has the same feel to me, except...

DLSS... Fucking DLSS. (cont)

given how it works (VRad) it is very lowres in order to work nicely on medium spec 2004 computers. Some time ago when I managed to import Source engine maps to Blender, the one thing I always loved was how it adapted to Blenders lighting engines (cont)

the new HL2 RTX remix is both really cool and kinda dissapointing.

One of the Source Engine's aims back in early-00s was to create an immersive world, including realistic lighting. Of course it was revolutionary but aged kinda quickly (though still has a charm)

Especially with shadows, (cont)
