While walkouts are difficult and trying, in the end they help workers get the benefits, pay, and safe working conditions they deserve to provide for their families and retire one day with dignity.

As a Chrysler UAW Local 110 Electrician for 33 years, I experienced 5 walkouts and I know firsthand how difficult it can be so yesterday I went to show just a little bit of solidarity by bringing water and ponchos.

When I served in the Missouri State House, they called me “Big Labor”, and I earned that name by fighting for working people every single day. That commitment hasn’t changed.

From leading the NAACP St. Louis County to serving on the Northeast Ambulance and Fire Protection District board, from youth development to job training, my work has always been about one thing—lifting up our community.

That experience strengthened my faith and deepened my commitment to fight for those who rarely get a second chance.

My journey hasn’t been without challenges. In 2008, I faced a personal and professional low point. Instead of walking away, I embraced accountability, was given a second chance, and recommitted myself to service.

Today, I stood with community leaders to announce that I’m running for Missouri’s 14th Senate District.

I’m running because our communities deserve a fighter—someone who won’t flinch in the face of injustice, and who will fight like family to deliver a better future for everyone.

We honor Mike’s memory by continuing to stand against injustice, push for real reform, and work to build a future where no parent has to fear losing their child to violence at the hands of those sworn to protect us.

Rest in power, Mike. We will never forget. ✊🏾

His death shook not just our community but the world — sparking a global movement for justice, accountability, and the fight to ensure every Black life is valued. While we have made progress, the work is far from over.
