I just spent a day marking students work and telling them to stop using "In Figure x, ...." or "Figiure X shows, ....". But then I read the AF3 paper published earlier this year in Nature and it is everywhere! Is this now ok? Have I been wrongfully penalising students (perish the thought)!?
