To paraphrase a paraphrased quote from Jean-Paul Sartre, --

"You don’t fight AI and fascism because you are going to win, you fight AI and fascism because it is fascism."

It's hard to overstate the impact and the importance of a project like Wikipedia. I know not everyone can afford to donate, but I'd like to encourage folks to at least consider contributing their time and become Wikipedia editors.

There are some great initiatives worth looking into, such as […]

Would definitely love to see a follow-up in 6-12 months about how much time developers spend cleaning up and refactoring the AI slop.

Really like how this connects the ephemeral feel of social media to the physicality of the equipment it runs on.

I wonder if DigitalOcean would let me take a photo of the server rack my Mastodon server runs on, hm.

The idea that a sentient AI would want to use its power to continue to exist in this world is anthropocentric bias. If it's that smart, it'll glance over some of the material we've "trained" it on and immediately want out.

I took a VM, installed FreeBSD, and set up the first jail to support Italy. The goal was to create a tool for my own use, support a few countries, and announce it.

Unexpectedly, the enthusiasm was incredible. That […]
