i finished jade city! its a great book, i especially enjoyed the meaty worldbuilding and how unafraid it is to shy away from real issues. I tend to read books with a feminist bias and this book si great for that

shoutout to that paper i read a year ago where someone put a dead baby in an oven to see if the current (1960s) theories on how heat mummification worked were correct. they were not in fact correct.

It really doesnt help eith people confusing archaeology and paleontology when theres a ton of sub disciplines with archaeology that also use the paleo prefix

It's a year ago since I fulfilled a lifelong ambition to visit the Bronze Age site of Akrotiri on Santorini. It's a truly extraordinary place. Buildings destroyed in a volcanic eruption c. 1600 BC still stand, some up to 3 storeys high, many with their contents. 🏺
