That makes sense and I completely agree that too much can cause overload and distraction!

But I've been to talks where I couldn't hear the crucial thing and there was a painting on the slide. There was no way for me of re-engaging in the talk until the crucial info was repeated... five slides later

I know your talk appears more engaging if you take all the text off the slides, but to who? That text can be REALLY important for non-native speakers and people with poor hearing.
