Call around to your local yarn shops. A lot of the small locally owned places have people who teach or even have beginner get togethers.

My fav YouTube teachers are TL Yarn Crafts and Rich Textures Crochet. Both of them have beginner stitch introductions.

I’m sorry but not having earbuds in is not going to make a difference when masked men are determined to grab you. Being alert is great but “our people of color” have had more than just “their wits” about them since the day their parents had the police talk with them as kids. Don’t shift blame here.
