Germline defence from TEs largely relies on piRNAs. Yet, @divyaselvaraju.bsky.social and I monitored a P-element invasion in Drosophila that was stopped by an internally deleted copy, no host intervention required!

Rapid emergence of non-autonomous elements may stop P-element invasions in the absence of a piRNA-based host defence
Author summary Transposable elements (TEs) are short, self-replicating DNA sequences found in nearly all genomes. While they can be harmful to their hosts, many organisms have evolved defence systems,...

Excited to share our first paper on the symbiosis between chlamydiae and social amoebae showing in detail the adaptations of endosymbionts to the social life style of their host! 🎉
Exciting new research! Matthias Horn & Lukas Helmlinger from #CeMESS uncover how chlamydiae thrive in social amoebae by skipping their extracellular stage.

New Paper: Chlamydiae give up extracellular stage to thrive in social amoebae
Many intracellular bacteria rely on an extracellular stage to move between hosts – but what happens when that’s no longer needed? A new study, now published in Current Biology, reveals a striking exam...

Yesterday, I mentioned some common bioinformatics mistakes. But today, we’re talking about THE most common one. And even experienced programmers sometimes get it wrong…

I see a lot of my mutual follow these accounts. Don't do it! They're spam. They steal content, get basic facts wrong, don't credit creators, and often amass an audience so they can link to spammy sites.
After calling them out as content scrapers I have been blocked by @nasauniverse.bsky.social @nasahubblenews.bsky.social and @marscuriosity.bsky.social
All three blocked me in the span of two minutes, confirming
they are scrapers and probably run by the same person.

Two aggregator accounts that should be promptly unfollowed and added to do-not-follow lists for promoting AI-generated content as real.
