Interesting, I thought it was exactly the opposite - higher interest rates have crashed the stock market and left the labor market completely intact.

The WSJ's complaint here is really weird and wrong, in that light.

So opponent 1 cooperates with opponent 2 by not deflecting in the first game unless others of the same characteristics have already defected, in which case, opponent 1 defects

Simultaneously this guy is creating a second prisoners dilemma for his counterparties in both games (opponent 1 will defect first and ruin the game for opponent 2, who wants to play it straight with the guy.)
