Stage 1 complete!

I don't know how you wasted your weekend but wasted mine building a ramp for my bike garage and refactored my weather summary page to load about 27x faster (god damn stupid slow garbage metservice app)

Mine’s quite location specific, so no gifs for it

(If anyone is wondering about weird gaps, The map excludes TC3 land and areas modelled as high risk re liquifaction)

Hah, yes - I have built my life around cycling and Auckland became financially untenable, so moved to Christchurch and bought a house based on the cycle commute (green = sub 20 mins and protected cycleways). I timed this all out last December, so I am really serious about that 20 minutes!

Voting is significantly more important than your helmet.

How do you think you get quiet, car free streets, more people walking cycling and using transit and bike lanes built?

Otherwise you’re stuck with asking nicely for people to not kill you while squabbling about a safety hat.

I was just being a hipster - I have a bunch of photos from when it was being built in [looks at metadata] April 2011

You used to be able to see the beaches across the water

It's certainly cumulative. The real death knell was the breakwater installed that completely severed the view of the gulf and opposite headlands from the waterfront :(

My view is that riccarton road is trying to do too much - general traffic, street frontage and transit lanes. Make it (yellow) a proper transit (only) mall and convert the parking (red) to laneways
June 17, 2025 at 7:42 AM
How do I make mine do that? 🥹

Can anyone offer / summon / imagine a vaguely coherent rationale for why these were selected for Ōtautahi micromobility share system?. Safety perception to bring in wary customers? I just see complexity

It is indeed lovely and smooth. @bikeauckland.bsky.social you should find out who did the work and get AT to require contractors to attend before building another lane with a garbage surface
