Book Reviews - Sherlock Holmes Takes The Case - David MacGregor
David Marcum David MacGregor is known to many as a Sherlockian Playwright, and his works in that field have entertained a great many in the live performance format. Sadly, I’ve never had the opportunity to see any of these plays live, although I have read the scripts, which are available from MX Publishing. But from my perspective, MacGregor’s even greater talent is crafting the kind of Sherlock Holmes stories that I want to read, and that I can read without fear that the author will make some egregious intentional error and drag the story – and me with it – off a cliff where Holmes is presented in an absolutely incorrect manner. Mr. McGregor’s short stories are correct. And like all the best wide-ranging Holmes adventures, one joins Holmes and Watson in the city or the country, investigating a range of crimes of varying tones and topics. This volume contains eight brilliant stories that MacGregor originally contributed to “The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories”. I sincerely hope that – even thought he MX Book has drawn to a close – more of these stories are in our future. Sherlock Holmes Takes The Case is available from this site and also; Amazon USA Barnes and Noble This wide-ranging collection of stories takes Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson from their cozy rooms in London, to exploring England's bucolic Lake District, to clambering up an extinct volcano in Scotland. Throughout, Holmes and Watson not only endeavour to solve the crimes, but also walk the delicate line of deciding what might be the best and fairest form of justice. Finally, in a more whimsical vein, Holmes and Watson investigate the magic and mystery surrounding Christmas.
