Most of the good satire got lost in the transition from goofy space western to 70s pulp pastiche

They’ve also done one that’s an A-Team pastiche as well

The Force Awakens is on telly. It's quite remarkable how every single scene is a pastiche of something in the original trilogy. An enjoyable pastiche, but you can always point and say "Ah this is riffing on that bit where..."

Despite that I think it has a lot of pace and charm.

Late-1970s pastiche houses, rue de la Violette in Brussels, a few steps away from the Grand-Place. On the fringe of the îlot sacré, an aesthetic truce cooked up from the 1920s onwards between developers, politicians and preservationists to present a lucrative trad appearance for tourists.

Adding a Nazi to a genre pastiche as a villain but to ward off the threat of the wrong people latching onto him as a misunderstood and cool character, basing him of the Nostalgia Critic.

New Vegas is the best fallout game ever because while this scene could happen in any Fallout game because they're all genre pastiche, only in New Vegas would it be *real* youtu.be/wdAXjMj6mfU

its part of the real genius of the prequels, the entire plot device is like a retro 1950s melodrama plotline. lucas made american graffiti, a 1950s nostalgia pastiche. he hilariously replicated a cliche pre-Roe/planned parenthood thing in a space opera

The Last Jedi is on now. It is remarkable how few scenes feel like a pastiche of something in the original trilogy.

How do you think Gex would be remembered if it had specific licenses rather than genre pastiche worlds? Which anime would have been the basis of 3’s Anime Channel?

Great stuff, Fred Housego doing 80’s pastiche in the 80’s! Seeing if I can spot a young me in this one

As you can tell, I love this movie to pieces, and not just because of the way it’s an homage/pastiche of adventure serials. So much care went into every part of it, even the most minor aspects!

You ever think about how The Decembrists just made a straight up Belle and Sebastian song in the same way that Dare to Be Stupid is a straight up DEVO song?

Ofc in this case the pastiche does not beat the original.

From the minds of Trailers From Hell Guru John Landis and the Zucker/Abrams/Zucker comedy troop comes… Kentucky Fried Movie, the epic anthology satire pastiche that continues Sketch Komedy Week! @josholson.bsky.social supplies today’s trailer commentary:

Before Broken Lizard and the Farrelly Brothers there was/were The Zuckers (plus Abraham) to burst the bounds of taste and political correctness with this often-imitated smorgasboard of skits, parodies...

Tarantino lost it with Kill Bill - it's too long and also so lost in pastiche of martial arts revenge films it forgets to stick in an engaging plot.

Given I'd been Dave's Mummy on LOT NO. 249 - itself a Hammer pastiche - it was satisfying to cross another classic monster off the list here.

and i do like gwitch a lot but for two shows by the same writer with near-identically described utena pastiche dueling systems introduced in the first episode the one that actually continues to do something meaningful with the references is not the one with a pilot called "the witch and the bride"

515. The Big Lebowski - Joel & Ethan COEN, 1998

#FilmNoir Jukebox: Blue Velvet opening theme, Angelo Badalamenti, 1986. This is the most classically "noir" of Badalamenti's work for David Lynch. It's a spot on pastiche of those lush, romantic scores of the late '40s / early '50s. #Noirvember #NeoNoir youtu.be/ZXfYNMwTe68?...
