I enjoyed "The Woman Who Breathed Two Worlds" by Selina Siak Chin Yoke a lot. It's the story of a Nyonya woman at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
Also: "The Country of Others" by Leïla Slimani, set in 1950 Morocco, influenced by the life of her grandparents.
