Christian. Father. Book lover. Fedgov engineer.
Trying not to dox myself but not doing great at that.
Knowing what he usually says, I’m scared to ask what kinds of things he says in November.

Didn’t they pivot to describing him as a modern Jehu? i.e. everything he does is ok because he’s killing the right people.

💯 I can vouch that my team has cleaned up a lot of bad engineering created by private industry for the government.

Mostly because poor quality was the only way to make it profitable.

If they wanted to put the notes in another book, great. Solves the problem. But that’s called a commentary.

I hate study Bibles. It gives the impression that the notes are as trustworthy as the text and that no further study is necessary.

For example, I’ve heard people argue over the meaning of notes in the MacArthur study Bible as though they were arguing over the text itself.

Ominous and dumb. Putting the entire top 2-3 levels of military leadership in a single location at once? Terrible idea.

All that plus two kids and trying to keep them from setting fire to the lady’s hair in front of you (who uses too much hairspray).

It’s a special kind of stress.

I love those backpacks. So many pockets and places to strap stuff until a friend asked me how I reconcile my faith with that image. That stuck. A Christian with military-style gear sends the wrong message. Jesus rejected empire.

I ask the same question now. How did we pick war over peace?
September 9, 2025 at 2:39 PM
Why not both?

In Bible studies, it was always difficult to reel people back once they embarked on a ramble through Revelation. Knowing nothing of the book except it’s in the Bible, and not reading it except a few key verses, they would exult in the judgments and not see the mirror it holds up.

And, if anything, history books are full of examples that corroborate this. Terrible people doing good things. Good people doing terrible things.

It’s too easy to put people into camps of good vs. evil. I think human nature is messy and that’s kind of the point.

Romans 7:15-24. Paul describes in himself what I think is the struggle of every human. The desire to do good (i.e. follow Torah) but fail to the ever lurking worthlessness of our desires.

And you’re right there will always be people who are evil. But we can’t assume that as the default.

False dichotomy. It’s too simple to describe humanity.

I think people want to be good and be the hero, and in their minds they are. But we’re all really bad at it.

That’s why I like to translate the NT Greek hamartia as fail or err instead of sin. Sin, like most English, means too many things.

One parent: suffering is bad and God hurts too because you hurt.

Other parent: uhhh. Good question. (No follow up.)

Then I started critically examining the behavior of the leaders at that church, and every one I’ve attended since, and the misogyny, sexual harassment, and antisemitism are staggering.

Still trying to find one that I don’t have to worry about what they are teaching my kids when I’m not looking.

My deconstruction started when my pastor started blaming me, from the pulpit, for things the elders didn’t like about the service. That he instructed us to do.

And when confronted said, “oh, I didn’t mean you,” and blamed me by name the next time.

He was surprised when I left. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is probably it. I followed a couple months ago after someone recommended a list of people to follow in games and related media.

Wild that it takes 8 officers to arrest a guy for throwing a sandwich. How bored do you think the cops were 10 minutes prior?

💯

Our local sandwich artist has a beastly throw.
