Happy Caturday from Isabel!

Finished last night. This version published in 1960 by Pocket Books has such a cool, pulpy cover. Originally published in 1939.

Today we are hanging out on the rooftop of our condo and also we don't want to be disturbed.

I'm at the " Oh, hell, I'm never going to finish, am I?" stage of organizing my library.

Last two books read. Nathan Fillion encourages you to read both. The Persephone is High Wages by Dorothy Whipple. Musical Tables by Billy Collins is a collection of short poems.

Last 2 books read. Thieves' Dozen was found while doing a major book purge in my home library. Comedic gold, IMHO, short stories about hapless thief John Dortmunder.

Bluets is prose poetry about the color blue. I wanted less of her s*x life, more depth to certain things like literary references.

Found a picture of Tiny Isabel when she came to us (found in a bush outside the vet's and held for me because I said I was looking for a second kitty).

Read tonight. A coffee table book with gorgeous photos of Native Americans from around the country and quotes by some of them about their lives, spirituality, connection to nature and ancestry. Some of the spreads with landscape images and no text took my breath away.

Latest book finished. I found this old gem in a box of books while trying to whittle down the possessions. Very action-packed, adventurous, and frankly silly. Published in 1954.

Finished a whopping 15 minutes before group discussion. A story set in Trinidad with supernatural elements and a little touch of romance. Lots to talk about.

A little late to the party on this one. I've had it since 1990.

It's 11:20 PM. Could you not, guys?

Still working on my May reading wrap-up but here's a glimpse of what I read.

First read of the month. I love Mary Oliver. I had a few favorite poems but didn't bother marking them. You can't lose with Mary Oliver. She's delightful.

Finished The Book of Delights and posed it with one of my delights, who is looking a bit janky (or "jenky", as the author spells it). Great book, BTW, a real spirit lifter full of essays about things that delight the author.

They've been called up for jury duty & are seated next to each other. When they start to converse, they are both charmed. But, he and she are married. Will they or won't they? I like the straightforward writing style and the banter but was disappointed in the choice they made.

This could be, "Good morning, why is the sky rumbling?" or it could be, "Another WTF day, I can feel it, already."

So good. This month's Contemplative Reading Project selection, about patriarchy, how it harms both men and women, and how things can be changed (but it would require a huge, societal buy-in). Once you get well into The Will to Change, you'll start to see what she describes everywhere.

They're onto us.

Husband bought an automatic feeder for the cats, hoping it would allow us to sleep a little longer, and then he bought a camera that's triggered by movement so he could watch to see if they're figuring out how to use it and -- long story short -- my new hobby is watching the cats eat.

The story of a Millennial couple who are digital nomads living in Berlin. Read thanks to my Millennial son's gushy recommendation. I didn't love it the way he did but we had two very eye-opening discussions about it and it turned out we enjoyed many of the same scenes.
