I'm a man of polyhedral proclivities and Dionysian tendencies
California. Called @schiff.senate.gov and @padilla.senate.gov It takes literal minutes and it actually matters. This is the last leverage Dems have left.

Wasn't the real issue that Dems didn't offer a clear and inspiring position beyond opposing Trump/the GOP?

Also, do we consider swing voters those that stayed home? I haven't checked on the numbers in a minute but my understanding is low Dem turnout was the nail in the coffin.

It's the corrosive "I'm smarter than everyone else, here's my counterintuitive take" beat. It's a lazy formula that's a placebo for actual journalism.
March 4, 2025 at 5:41 PM
This should be the demand. SCOTUS already ruled that the /only/ mechanism of accountability that's valid for POTUS is impeachment. This gives Dems a clear demand that recognizes that this admin can't keep it's word on any deal and will ignore laws, norms, and procedures. Take the football from Lucy.

Considering how often Neil deGrasse Tyson has been on Rogan you'd think he'd have absorbed this...

Fuck, even if he had just read the Mars trilogy by KSR (as wrong as we now know it is) he'd know you'd need to get a magnetic field going.

SCOTUS already decided the only valid mechanism for accountability for the executive branch is impeachment. No nominees, no budget deal, no debt ceiling increase without impeachment/removal. There's no deal the GOP will honor with Trump still in office.
February 27, 2025 at 8:13 PM
Or no nominees, no budget, no debt ceiling until impeachment/removal...
February 27, 2025 at 5:52 PM
SCOTUS has already said there's no accountability for a president's law breaking outside of impeachment.

No nominees, no budget, no debt ceiling increase until impeachment and removal. This admin will run out the clock and burn down the country before following a court order.

I guess I'm wondering how this is materially different from fascism...
February 27, 2025 at 4:56 PM
A great outcome of all of this would be the death of the "here's who's annoying me online this week" beat.
February 27, 2025 at 4:24 PM
No budget and no debt ceiling until they're all prosecuted.
February 27, 2025 at 3:33 PM
I feel like we're only a couple of weeks away from this admin declaring that being trans is grounds for denaturalization and stripping of citizenship. Then we lose gay marriage, then we lose no fault divorce, then we decriminalize marital rape.

This is already an emergency. Wake tf up people.

And eggs

Called my rep for the first time yesterday. The demands need to go further: Ejecting Musk and DOGE from the government and cataloging every action they've taken to tee up charges once Congress flips.
February 26, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Already left WaPo behind after the endorsement fiasco. Gonna need to figure out a way to break up with Amazon without beggering my family. It's long overdue.
February 26, 2025 at 3:22 PM
I think it's possible to acknowledge things need improvement but still point out the obvious fact that this admin is totally operating in bad faith.

It's a hard needle to thread though. For instances, I'm having a tough time supporting upcoming strikes while we fight for our lives.

Here's hoping it's not any random but every random. Seriously, though, he could increase the resale value dramatically if it was pelted with eggs...

I'm more persuaded by the "psychological impact of higher prices has higher salience than the wage gains that offset it" argument, but I'd love to see some more data teasing that apart.

Parsimony is still on the side of "media distorted perceptions of the economy" though.
February 24, 2025 at 5:30 PM
Not just in the physical world either. I sincerely believe we're going to see this administration punish critics by leaking their Treasury and SSA info to identity thieves.
