I’m a sysadmin and I’d probably recommend Fedora to most people if not Ubuntu. Most popular apps are usually packaged with the selected Desktop Environment, which is distro agnostic and usually GNOME or KDE Plasma (more like Windows). You should be able to select the DE you want during installation.

No Marxist should tell you that On Authority is a flawless piece. Its relevance in this context is to introduce the ideas that authority as a concept is not exclusively an ethical concern, and that authority as a phenomena can be systemic as well as social.
