I zoomed through this book in a few hours. Catalina’s earnestness in the beginning reminds me of myself at that age. This was a much more emotional read than I expected, and I highly recommend it. @karlarrriot.bsky.social

After a delay caused by feeling absolutely shit, I finished this one today. Becky Holmes @deathtospinach.bsky.social, I have to admit I came into this with a judgmental view, thinking it could never happen to me. I was impressed and humbled by your empathy (cont. in photo alt text)

Getting started on Keanu Reeves is Not in Love With You by Becky Holmes @deathtospinach.bsky.social. I’ve wanted to read this one since I first saw its amusing cover and title, and I’ve already gigglesnorted twice.

A young patron gave my coworker a plush sloth holding Pusheen because they know she loves both. We have the best damn job ever.

Current read:

Blood at the Root by LaDarrion Williams

This one has been on my TBR for a while and so far I am LOVING IT. You can always tell when Alabama is being written by someone who KNOWS Alabama.

Today I went to a spine specialist. Apparently my rheumatoid arthritis has spread to the joints in my lumbar spine and sacrum and the swelling and inflammation is pressing on my nerves and causing pain and weakness in my legs. (Continued in alt text on photo)

Fannie Flagg’s aunt, Bess Fortenberry, was the basis for the character Idgie Threadgoode in Fried Green Tomatoes. She was the owner of the Irondale Cafe, which became the Whistle Stop Cafe in the book/movie. The more I learn about Bess, the more I realize how much of her there is in Idgie.

While I’m thinking about Fried Green Tomatoes, I work in the little Alabama town that Whistle Stop was based on. This was Fannie Flagg’s relatives’ house in the old downtown section. The “Threadgoode house”was based on this home.

Thinking about how much these two women and the story they are part of mean to me.
