I don’t believe in things with no evidence. This has never seemed that hard to me - like, if there’s no evidence after thousands of years of people trying, that means it’s just not true, the same way anything else would be. But this is also my screen lock image so I may go harder on this than most

Yes, this was explicitly his project. Obviously A-S myth was a big part of LotR, but I also think he tried to incorporate the legendarium organically into pre-existing myths of many Northern European cultures. You see this tons with language and poetry in the books. For example, from the prose Edda:

This is literally Disney’s stated goal for EPCOT. It was originally designed as an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. He wanted to create a town of mostly employees where the corporation acted as both landlord and state. He died before he could finish it. From Wikipedia:
