We thought we were going to lose our Bobo today, but the vet came through with some medication that is helping him. His whiskers have turned from black to white with age, but his affectionate nature remains. Notice how he daintily crossed his paws and posed for this #Caturday photo. #Cats

Like all #cycads, the coontie, Florida’s only native cycad, has separate male and female plants. Cycads have cones instead of flowers. On the left is a 9cm female coontie cone, with a pollen-laden 15cm male cone on the rt. Beetles and other insects are the pollinators. (See Alt) 🌱 #Plants #MyGarden

Three years ago I was lucky enough to go on a swamp walk in the Fakahatchee Strand of the Everglades in southwest Florida where we saw these amazing orchids blooming in their native habitat.

More Atala #butterflies on the way! (Eumaeus atala) I counted 18 #caterpillars on one small coontie plant (Zamia integrifolia) this morning. It’s almost totally defoliated now, but that’s why I grow them. More leaves will come out before too long. 🌱 #MyGarden #Insects #Cycads

The beautiful berries and glossy leaves of the native wild coffee (Psychotria nervosa). The #birds and other #wildlife in #MyGarden usually avoid this #fruit. Most of it falls to the ground and re-seeds year after year. 🌱
