In print today: A 95-year-old retired watchmaker has spent a quarter-century trying to uncover the backstory — a possible JFK connection — of a clock he found online in 1999. He had paid just $280. But was it priceless?

Legend.
Michael Ochs, who out of nerdy devotion to rock history preserved ephemera of the music industry seen by many as junk, and who realized belatedly that he had built the world’s leading collection of photos chronicling the modern history of popular music, died in Los Angeles. He was 82.
Michael Ochs, Top Collector of Rock ’n’ Roll Photos, Dies at 82
He surveyed the trash of record companies, haggled with aging photographers and scoured estate sales, building an archive widely seen as unmatched.

I recall John telling me how he made photos after hopping into Diana Dors’ car at Cannes & ended up at the afterparty. Just a tiny fragment that speaks to another age but his work will stand the test of time. Likewise the incredible staffers at Picture Post. What a time it would have been!
The documentary photographer John Chillingworth, who has died aged 97, was one of the stable of famous photographic names who worked for the pioneering weekly magazine Picture Post in the 1940s and 50s.

In huge news, the UK government was just defeated in the House of Lords for a second time over AI & copyright.

The government had removed amendments to the Data Bill that would require AI companies to disclose their training data. The Lords have now reinserted them.
