Whisky is the best. No refrigeration, no ice, and no mixers needed. Just pour and enjoy.
We don't have a huge variety here but for Japan, I've been more impressed with Nikka offerings than Suntory.

Other countries mimic Scotch production and taste profiles but I haven't heard of other countries doing the same to get the taste profile of Bourbon. Are there any out there?

Going with Lagavulin 16 today in celebration of my nephew, Mac, getting married and my grand nephew, Darwin, for whom every birthday is a gift.

Any smoky Scotch whisky friends ever try this Casamigos Mezcal? A friend recommended it to me and it's smoky and makes a nice malternative if you want a change from the usual. The reviews I found were mostly negative but it was very familiar to me as a Scotch drinker.

@welshwhiskynerd.bsky.social Tasting Note 12 years ago. On the nose, I get Church Ladies perfume & a bit of the incense that they burn there - 1960s era. A little bit of sweet red licorice Twizzlers aftertaste most probably from the Madeira cask influence. Really smooth and nice. An Aunts favorite.

I spotted this for the 1st time in NH and for $55 I went for it. Nothing too challenging but a competent sipper. If you add water, add very little. Even at 45% ABV, this one can drown easily. It has an unpeated Scotch malt vibe to it. No age stated. I'll probably get a spare.

I like to have some cheap whisky around to play around with home blending and realized I only had good stuff in the stash. Today I bought some Johnnie Walker Black and Monkey Shoulder. 375ml each of those and 2 teaspoons of Ardbeg An Oa. Going down nicely and still cheap.

If the Douche-Bag starts sticking tariffs on Scotch again, I'm going to need some Malternatives. I just bought the Four Roses Small Batch Select and the Knob Creek 12 Year Old to add to what I already had. They are all perfectly good enough but that Knob Creek punches through. Rare Breed wins Value

I had the TV on Wanted: Dead or Alive with Steve Mc Queen. Twice in the show he gets a shot of whiskey, takes a sip and either talks to someone or just leaves the bar and doesn't finish the shot. Is his character so rich that he can waste whiskey or is it just shitty whiskey? Who does that?

I just discovered a new way to tone down the oak in the Amrut Fusion Indian single malt. A few drops of Angostura Bitters does the trick nicely.

If I can only stay up past midnight, I won't have to worry about the fat-man breaking into my house and drinking my whisky.

A whisky friend just got engaged so I made a malt blend to raise a cheer. I went with a 50/50 blend of Balblair 15 and Old Pulteny 15. It seemed to have taken on a sweetness that wasn't in either one but I did add some water and let it sit for 2 hours. Slàinte Mhath!

I read an article about cheese to pair with a peated Scotch. I'm enjoying the top pick now. An 18 month old Aged Gouda with a Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength. Nothing wrong with that. First time with that aged Gouda. That sure is a hard cheese. Get a good sturdy knife.

A fun High ABV whiskey experiment. I poured some Bookers cask strength Bourbon and added a small piece of ice with no visible air bubbles. It sank to the bottom and as I watched the ice melt, a layer of water formed at the bottom and pushed the ice up so it stayed suspended between alcohol and water

It all started about 12 years ago, it was 12 years ago on Thanksgiving when I had nothing better to do on that Sunny and perfect late fall afternoon, so I took pictures of some whisky bottles. First up, Brenne French Single Malt finished in Cognac casks. It tastes like bubblegum.

Pre-gaming my Holiday Malt Blend. 1 part Amrut Fusion (India) and 3 parts High Coast Hav (Sweden). The Fusion is peated and quite oaky. The Hav is a dry faint peat malt with little oak influence. This 1 to 3 ratio blend makes a Holiday Winner.

I saw this mug/bowl a while back. It was part of a soup bowl set and each bowl had a different featured soup with it's recipe displayed on it. This Scotch Broth bowl is the only one I need although my recipe is a bit different. I take mine neat.
