Mom to a teen & 3🐈. Advocate for education, road safety, & housing. DC-born, MoCo-grown, Maryland AF. Oxford comma fan. she/her. I ❤️ music, sewing & books.
And when we try to make changes, neighbors organize with rhetoric like this. Kemp Mill Civic Association is riling up fear of having to pay tickets (avoidable by not speeding) while people are killed on these roads. It’s disgusting.

Grief is so weird. My dad died 9.5 months ago but today something triggered me to look at a Gmail exchange about him w/ the rabbi who spoke at his burial & now I’m crying. A friend sent me a screenshot from a fb group—I sent it to the rabbi to help him write his eulogy.

Here is the 10 year crash history map of the neighborhood. Some are property damage only. But every crash could be one that hurts a child.

Blue dot is K-P ES.

These people are bad people.

They saying that they believe the aesthetics of their neighborhood matter more than the safety of children and people with disabilities.

Trees are replaceable. Children are not.

Can’t block, no sign size stated here. I’ve been told 8.5x11 before. Guess I look like a troublemaker.

Why can’t he get off his ass and learn to change a tire?

In one of my unironically favorite places testifying as a DCC mom & MCPS alum in support of the MCPS CIP request & generally for safer streets & more sidewalks.

Yes! I have found so many sewists and quilters. Here’s a couple of my favorites I’ve made. I haven’t quilted in awhile, but I really want to start again.

Brown tabbies with white eyeliner are the best.

I generally subscribe to the Alton Brown view of unitaskers being clutter in the kitchen, but I truly adore the $10 bagel slicer I got from Aldi a few months ago. I think to myself how much I appreciate it every time I use it.

I faltered in the moment but managed to say something like “he already goes to the local elementary school & is doing well.” She never spoke to me again once we moved in.

Anyway, ProPublica now has a database of demographics of private schools.

This is one of my nightmares. I hope this driver is rescued and survives.

Another thing I found interesting: while available ECAs increased across the district from 2019 to 2023, the numbers actually decreased at high-FARMs HSs.
January 14, 2025 at 6:50 PM
Another tidbit of interest, three high schools didn't feel they had to respond to the OLO.

Other interesting points - I had no idea this certificate existed, and the lack of data collection makes me wonder how this is validated.

Another finding that is a) not surprising, but is b) disturbing is this:
January 14, 2025 at 6:50 PM
One key finding, which should surprise nobody, is that opportunity gaps in extracurricular offerings exist by race, ethnicity, & SES (FARMs rate).
