But better now though. Wow!

I don’t like anything from U2 before Achtung Baby and after Zooropa, but love these two albums.

Being in a crowd of 80,000 people all happy and positive. Zero (what I saw anyway) aggro or hassle at all. From Brisbane airport, on the flight, around town, on the trains, in the stadium.

When and where else does that happen nowadays in what is a horrible, divided world much of the time?

So. Yeah. Wow. Just wow!

Life affirming, joyful - but words don’t do it justice really.

Still processing Oasis.

I knew it would be good, didn’t appreciate it would be THAT good. The gig itself was amazing….but as a joyful, life affirming THING it was off the scale.

That was a strong side Ferguson put out, we didn’t beat your kids that night. I remember being in the pub pre-match when news of that lineup came through and we all thought we’d get battered.

Thanks. But like I haven’t got the whole game on a DVD somewhere…. 😉

Fly down Saturday morning my time for the gig Saturday night. No holiday left with big trip home coming up.

Sydney is one of the world’s great cities but 24 hours will have to do.

…I don’t think I listen to many ‘boys’ at all (probably just Kneecap and Fontaines DC recently).
November 4, 2025 at 2:46 AM
Yeah, on it already.

Still think of this whole ‘zeitgeist’ scene right now Lambrini Girls do it best.

Overall I’m a big fan of the young women making music right now. Between these bands plus CMAT, Self Esteem, Wet Leg, Last Dinner Party etc plus the more pop stuff (Olivia, Chappell, Charli)…
November 4, 2025 at 2:46 AM
Well? Verdict?

Saturday will be 8th or 9th time for me seeing them (there’s one my mate says I was at with him which I can’t remember - it was the 90s 🤣) since 1995. You’ll never capture the excitement of those early gigs but my anticipation for this is getting close.
November 1, 2025 at 1:25 AM
You going to see them this weekend?
October 30, 2025 at 11:52 AM
We get it Albo, you like music and think you’re pretty cool for an old bloke.

So wear your first year Uni student clothes round the house and on your time off by all means, just not at work (which this was).

Of course wearing a Joy Division t-shirt doesn’t make you anti-Semitic or a closet Nazi so clearly this is a cheap shot.

HOWEVER he is the Prime fucking Minister and representing the whole country returning from an important trip on matters of state. So wearing it DOES make you look like a try hard

I CAN’T think of a player I meant to say
October 27, 2025 at 11:44 PM
So think in the past there’s been other factors at play too within this communities maybe (a bigger focus on academic achievements over sporting ones and/or a preference of other sports like cricket). I’d actually be quite confident though that it’s something the FA is working on.

Not saying there isn’t racism of course, that would be totally silly. But institutionally within the scouting and development of elite players? I don’t think so because all clubs care about is finding and bringing through talent so skin colour doesn’t come into it.
October 27, 2025 at 11:43 PM
I’m no expert - so this comes with that caveat of course. But don’t think it a case of diaspora players choosing other countries over England - I can think of a player who fits that anyway. However players of Asian descent are under represented as a whole (certainly compared to other communities).
October 27, 2025 at 11:37 PM
The question of Asian representation is interesting. From what I’ve seen it’s not that football doesn’t want Asian players (I think it does) but traditionally Asian communities haven’t engaged with the game on the whole. I suspect that is changing and you’ll see that start to show in years ahead.
October 27, 2025 at 9:06 PM
It will take a few years for it to show at senior level in the women’s game. But when the crop of young girls inspired by this current Lionesses teams success (a massive spike in participation by all accounts) start to be of an age where they are in contention then you’ll start seeing it.
October 27, 2025 at 9:06 PM
And when a sport is that popular, and crucially for this that much of a business, then the net is cast as wide as possible and if people from any community WANT to play the game then they can and will - which will flow into the professional ranks and national team.
